The Group Analyst is a commercially minded, operations-focused role responsible for providing integrated analytical support to executive management across the Group’s gold mining operations. The role is not purely financial in nature and requires a strong understanding of both underground and open-pit mining operations.
The position focuses on translating operational performance, mine planning assumptions, and cost drivers into clear insights that support strategic and operational decision-making. The Group Analyst acts as a bridge between operations and finance, ensuring decisions are grounded in practical mining realities as well as commercial discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse group and site-level operational and financial performance across underground and open-pit gold mining operations, translating operational drivers into commercial outcomes.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, life-of-mine planning, and long-term strategic planning through integrated financial and operational models, including scenario and sensitivity analysis.
- Develop and evaluate business cases for capital projects, mine development, optimisation initiatives, and business development opportunities, providing decision support to executive and board-level stakeholders.
- Deliver accurate, timely, and standardised management and board reporting, ensuring strong data integrity, and alignment between operational and financial reporting.
- Lead performance analysis using advanced Excel modelling and Power BI dashboards to track KPIs against targets to support informed decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement through data centralisation, automation, and enhancement of business systems.
- Act as a trusted analytical partner to operations, finance, HR, shared services and executive management, strengthening cross-functional collaboration and insight-driven decision-making.
- Support project management activities, cost analysis, and performance tracking, while contributing to process optimisation and efficiency improvements across the Group.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong operational exposure to underground and open-pit mining environments
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining operations, business analysis, or commercial roles within a mining context
- Experience in gold mining – highly desirable
- Chartered Financial Analyst Level III qualification – (highly desirable)
- Strong financial modelling and analytical skills
- Advanced Excel skills: experience with Power BI is advantageous
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to interpret and communicate complex data clearly
- Strong commercial acumen and problem-solving ability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
