This senior role requires a senior mining manager who has work in the big large scale of the mining sector in Zimbabwe or the Diaspora.

The role reports to the General Manager and has three Heads of department – in underground management – development, production, and projects management reporting into their office.

A high-powered leader with large scale underground mining experience from the local or for the diaspora mining sector willing to return home is wanted 

This is an urgent role and requires interest soonest. 

Job Purpose

The position contributes to the implementation of the Mine strategy, in alignment with the Company’s long-term strategy.

The position also ensures continued growth of the mine and maximization of operational efficiencies, safety, cost management and profitability. 

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Managing the Mining sections  to achieve the mining plan in terms of waste and ore throughput safely and at correct grades.
  • Managing the Underground and Development sections, ensuring production and development targets are met.
  • Ensuring we have the right labour numbers to match the size of the business as per budget and mine plan.
  • Managing effective implementation of Capex and Opex for the Mining department
  • Developing and coordinating enforcement of daily, monthly and annual operational and execution plans of the Mining operation
  • Ensuring effective and efficient allocation of Mining resources as measured by schedule compliance
  • Championing continuous improvement through identifying, evaluating, justifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to reduce mining costs.
  • Continuously and effectively engaging the Mining Technical services for production planning
  • Assessing adequacy of mining infrastructure, motivating, and budgeting for improvement of infrastructure
  • Coordinating enforcement of daily inspections on Mining Contractor operations to ensure compliance to procedures, standards, safeguards, costs and legislation
  • Ensuring strict adherence and implementation of all management systems and procedures (i.e. compliance with ISO 14001 EMS, ISO 45001 OH & S, ISO 9001)
  • Chairing the investigations of incidents at the workplace, in ways ensuring avoidance of recurrence of similar incidents. 
  • Identifying skills gaps and develop training interventions to address gaps, as well as coaching and mentoring subordinate team members. 

Additional  Specifications 

Suitable candidates should have the following qualifications and experience: – 

  • BSc (Hons) Mining Engineering
  • At least 15 years Mining management experience of which at least 10 years should be in Underground mining operations
  • Be in possession of Full Blasting License
  • Demonstrable experience in managing large Mining headcount numbers
  • Experience in underground mining and development projects is very essential.
  • Experience in project management very essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions.
  • Demonstrable understanding and interpretation of applicable legislation and Mining Regulations
  • Good understanding of the Mine value chain and affected stakeholders
  • Clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence

–  Should have demonstrable knowledge of managing spatial complexity across functions as well as diverse workloads based on different priorities.

–  Should have practical working knowledge of business management principles which include cost budgeting and control, strategic metrics computation and planning, materials resource allocation and human resources management.
