Duties and Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility and authority for the maintenance function and ensure that the Engineering Department realizes its strategic and operational objectives.
- Budgetary control and management of departmental overheads in consultation with the Financial Department and engineering spares inventory control in liaison with the Procurement Department
- Providing technical input to spares inquiries and orders to ensure that the correct components are ordered and correctly used.
- Administer the Preventative and Planned Maintenance program and review regularly, the quality of inspection checklists and their frequency.
- Development of reliable and cost-effective lubrication strategies aimed at maximizing equipment life and reliability.
- Conduct studies and research as needed to increase equipment reliability while reducing maintenance costs, recommend modifications or replacements to increase reliability, and design out problems when reviewing proposed capital or major maintenance projects.
- Record and analyze reports from all maintenance activities to ensure that all necessary repairs are planned and executed before deterioration of equipment and to maximize equipment reliability, make use of available resources, and minimize costs.
- Interface with Operations to schedule and prioritize inspections and repair work and identify any equipment problems, which may be impacting the process negatively.
- Develop and maintain a set of maintenance standards to be used as a guide by the plant; advise plants of possible maintenance problems, which should be addressed regularly.
- Sound plant environmental management and occupational safety practices/policies in line with statutory requirements/regulations such as the Factories and Works Act.
- Implementation of systems to promote continuous improvement of reliability and plant performance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering – B-Tech/ B. Eng.
- At least 5 years of technical experience in a paper packaging plant environment
