The role reports to Group Engineering Manager and is accountable for the integrity of the tailing’s facilities across the group; during their operational, construction and closure phases. The role is also accountable for all study work related to the expansion and supporting dam facilities.
You are expected to advise the leadership team, of the evaluation of performance and review of results conducted as part of the tailings management system, results of the tailings safety review process and be apprised of any significant developments in these activities, including production and ore body changes.
Accountabilities
- Full accountability for the integrity of the tailing’s facility.
- Understand the tailings facilities and risk management including any failures, deficiencies, or opportunities for improvement.
- Responsible for liaising with Engineers with the construction, operations, planning, regulatory affairs, social performance, and environmental teams.
- Responsible for implementation of the design and ensuring compliance to design.
- Accountable for the establishment of a change management system
- Responsible for the monitoring system and communication of the results including performance reviews.
- Responsible, for the Construction Records Report
- Responsible for the Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) Manual and its development
- Lead the team with other dam facilities including cost effective design and budgeting processes.
- Work cross-functionally with various teams and stakeholders to ensure the study work is to the required standard.
- Strictly maintain the application of the Health, Safety and Environment rules.
- Manage activities, through clear communication of the targets, performance evaluation, feedback, informing management and supporting subordinates.
- Actively engage with key stakeholders Tailings Steering Committee, Technical Committee, the Independent Tailings Review Board (ITRB), and other regulatory bodies
- Ensure systems are in place to achieve the agreed level of compliance with the Global Industry Standard and Tailings Management (GISTM) and demonstrate role performance as required.
Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
- Minimum 6 to 10 years’ experience in Tailings operational experience, including tailings construction planning and execution.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with mine tailings management and/or water dam management
- Project Management experience, including budgeting and costing, auditing, and training is an asset.
- Good understanding and general knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to the mining industry and production facilities in Zimbabwe and good industry practice globally.
- Advanced computer skills including proficiency in tailings modelling and design and MS Office Suite applications, AutoCAD and other modelling and drawings software.
- Advanced analytical, problem solving, risk analysis and decision-making abilities.
- Engineering degree qualification in relevant engineering subject (civil, soil mechanics, geotechnical)
- Consulting background/exposure to multitude of settings/operations would assist.
