The SHE Manager role opportunity is extended to a select group of highly accomplished, senior-level mining professionals with a proven track record in large-scale mine project development and operational excellence.

Reporting to the General Manager, the SHE Manager provides leadership, governance and assurance over Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) performance at Blanket Mine. The role is accountable for establishing, embedding, and continuously improving an integrated SHE management framework that protects people, assets, the environment, and the Company’s social licence to operate, while enabling safe, compliant, and sustainable production.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Management, Environmental Science, Occupational, Health, Engineering or related discipline.
- Recognized professional SHE qualification (NEBOSH Diploma, SAMTRAC or equivalent).
- Sound working knowledge of Zimbabwean mining and SHE legislation.
- Membership with relevant professional bodies.
- Minimum 15 years’ progressive SHE experiences in mining or heavy industry.
- Experience implementing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and related systems.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- SHE PLAN, GOVERNANCE & COMPLIANCE
- Define and maintain the Blanket Mine SHE Improvement Plan aligned to Caledonia Group standards and statutory obligations.
- Establish site wide SHE policies, standards and procedures and ensure consistent implementation.
- Provide independent assurance to the General Manager on SHE risks exposure and compliance status.
- Govern contractor SHE systems and approve readiness prior to mobilization.
- Maintain effective regulatory relationships with EMA, NSSA and the Ministry of Mines, etc.
- SAFETY LEADERSHIP & CULTURE
- Embed line accountability for SHE performance across all management levels.
- Coach managers and supervisors on SHE leadership responsibilities.
- Drive behavioural based safety and environmental awareness programmes.
- Set expectations for consistent safety standards across employees and contractors.
- Champion visible felt leadership for safety and environmental stewardship.
- RISK MANAGEMENT & OPERATIONAL CONTROL
- Establish and maintain an integrated SHE risk management framework.
- Ensure critical and material risks are identified, assessed, and controlled.
- Approve risk registers for high risk mining and processing activities.
- Monitor leading and lagging indicators to anticipate emerging risks.
- Verify effectiveness of critical controls through inspections and audits.
- INCIDENT & CRISIS MANAGEMENT
- Provide leadership oversight of serious incidents and high potential events.
- Ensure investigations identify systemic and root causes.
- Approve corrective and preventive action plans.
- Ensure statutory incident reporting requirements are met.
- Lead SHE input into crisis management and business continuity planning.
- ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP & SUSTAINABILITY
- Provide oversight of environmental management programmes.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental permits and license conditions.
- Govern water stewardship, waste management, and pollution control.
- Integrate rehabilitation and closure considerations into operational planning.
- Support Caledonia’s sustainability and ESG commitments.
- AUDIT, ASSURANCE & MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
- Govern internal and external SHE audits and inspections.
- Ensure timely closure of audit findings and non conformances.
- Benchmark SHE performance against industry best practice.
- Verify effectiveness of management systems through assurance reviews.
- Drive continuous improvement through system reviews.
- PERFORMANCE REPORTING & DECISION SUPPORT
- Define and track SHE KPIs aligned to business objectives.
- Prepare SHE performance reports and dashboards.
- Provide data driven insights to support strategic decision making.
- Ensure accurate statutory reporting to regulators.
- Analyze trends and predict future SHE risks exposure
- Promote transparency and accountability through reporting
