This senior management role requires the successful person to ensure that SHE systems are established, implemented, and maintained to ensure safe production and compliance with safety legislation for the mining sector.
Responsibilities;
- Develop and coordinate safety and health management systems and strategies.
- Designing and maintaining all health and safety regulations within the company including policies and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure occupational health and safety and environmental plans and procedures for all project activities are developed, implemented, and complied with, in line with the Mine management standards.
- Identify and manage all of the HSE risks associated with the projects, including business and operational risks.
- Ensure all HSE standards, plans, procedures, etc are conveyed to all staff and contractors working on the project.
- Lead a culture of reporting hazards, incidents, and near-miss events and ensure they are appropriately investigated and actioned to prevent a recurrence.
- Take the lead and participate in visible HSE initiatives (e.g., workplace inspections, SHE meeting attendance, internal audits, hazard, and incident reporting, and behavioral observations) to drive site-wide SHE performance.
- Hold individuals at all levels accountable for their HSE actions and take the relevant disciplinary action when necessary.
- Oversee environmental management programs including monitoring, land rehabilitation, water management, waste management, and other key functions.
- Evaluating and monitoring the organization’s SHE performance through the use of leading and lagging indicators.
- Conducting SHE Audits and inspections.
- Driving the organization’s behavior-based safety programs.
- Manage the resourcing requirements of the SHE department to meet the needs of the operation.
- Continuous improvement of safety operations whilst also proactively developing quality systems, approaches, and practices as needed.
- Ensure that all daily, weekly, and monthly department reports are completed accurately.
The ideal candidate should have:
- A degree in Safety Health and Environment management or equivalent.
- Knowledge and experience of ISO SHEQ systems’
- SHE audit systems training.
- Master’s Degree would be an added advantage.
- Minimum 7 Years’ experience in the OHS function in the Mining industry
