Job Purpose
The position contributes to the implementation of the Mine strategy, in alignment with the Company’s long-term strategy. The position also ensures continued growth of the mine and maximization of operational efficiencies, safety, cost management and profitability.
Duties and responsibilities
- Managing the Mining contractor to achieve the mining plan in terms of waste and ore throughput safely and at correct grades.
- Managing effective implementation of Capex and Opex for the Mining department
- Developing and coordinating enforcement of daily, monthly and annual operational and execution plans of the Mining operation
- Ensuring effective and efficient allocation of Mining resources as measured by schedule compliance
- Championing continuous improvement through identifying, evaluating, justifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to reduce mining costs.
- Continuously and effectively engaging the Mining Technical services for production planning
- Assessing adequacy of mining infrastructure, motivating and budgeting for improvement of infrastructure
- Coordinating enforcement of daily inspections on Mining Contractor operations to ensure compliance to procedures, standards, safeguards, costs and legislation
- Ensuring strict adherence and implementation of all management systems and procedures – Compliance with ISO 14001 EMS, ISO 45001 OH & S, ISO 9001
- Chairing the investigations of incidents at the workplace, in ways ensuring avoidance of recurrence of similar incidents.
- Identifying skills gaps and develop training interventions to address gaps, as well as coaching and mentoring subordinate team members.
Person Specifications
Suitable candidates should have the following qualifications and experience: –
- BSc (Hons) Mining Engineering
- At least 15 years Mining management experience of which at least 10 years should be in Open Pit mining operations
- Be in possession of Full Blasting License
- Demonstrable experience in managing Mining Contractors a must
- Experience in Gold ore deposits very essential.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions.
- Demonstrable understanding and interpretation of applicable legislation and Mining Regulations
- Good understanding of the Mine value chain and affected stakeholders
- Clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence
