Reporting to the CEO of the Investments Cluster, the Managing Director will be responsible for the overall business growth transformation, profitability and leadership of the organization through the following key duties & responsibilities:
- Providing strategic direction and guidance towards achieving the organisation’s short- and long-term goals.
- Exploring new business and investment opportunities that will translate into sustainable profitability and business growth.
- Mobilizing and managing deposits and funds for onward lending.
- Collaborating with Board members and Management team to successfully implement a growth plan for loans and other financial services.
- Ensuring the provision of effective systems, structures and resources to support the growth of the institution, including a team of well-trained, focused and motivated staff.
- Expanding knowledge of the organization’s market and improve the sales methodology, product offerings, delivery channels and loan procedures.
- Managing relationships with clients and promoting the organization brand and image.
- Ensuring full compliance to and adherence to regulatory and statutory guidelines.
- Ensuring strict adherence to corporate governance practices and implementation of internal controls.
- Rigorous risk assessment and implementation of disciplined risk management practices that minimise bad debts.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal position holder should have:
- Entrepreneurial or Business-related degree.
- Minimum of eight (8) years post-qualification experience out of which, at least, five (5) must be in the financial services industry and at least, three (3) at the Senior/ Executive Management level with emphasis on micro-lending.
- Proven experience preferably within the banking or microfinance environment in the following areas, banking operations, marketing/ business development, credit risk management, financial management & administration, financial analysis, development of organizational structures & systems.
- Superior understanding of micro-finance business and regulatory framework.
- Expansion experience in the financial sector (microfinance or banking).
- Ability to visualise a future for the business and develop strategies to realise that future
- Ability to create sound business plans in line with strategic objectives of the organization and to oversee execution of an institutional strategy through concrete deliverables and timelines.
- Demonstrated leadership, networking and collaboration/negotiation skills.
- Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationship within diverse organizational structure in order to facilitate feedback and enhance implementation.
