This role reports to the Head of Finance and is critical to the Mine Operations.
(Mining accounting experience is desired for this well-paid position).
The purpose of this role is managing the financial operations as per the regulatory, & internal financial reporting policies and guidelines of our mine and ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting of financial information.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Implement budget and cost control, assist with budgeting and forecasting, communicate with user departments regarding their weekly and monthly spending. Probe and collate comments from HODs on significant variations.
- Establish stock minimum reorder quantity through analysis of historical information, forecast production and consultation with HODs
- Monitoring and commenting on weekly and monthly procurement through tracking in relation to monthly/annual budget and comparison to current stocks.
- Prepare, review, analyse and report on weekly and monthly management accounts
- Oversee the day to day running of the finance and accounts section on site including collaboration with cross-functional teams, including head office, procurement, payroll, and operations.
- Establish and monitor internal control systems, in conjunction with the Security Department, across the operation.
- Tax and other statutory returns and ensure compliance with all regulations.
- Manage general ledger, review of trial balance, and performance of monthly reconciliations, monthly financial statement close process and preparation of monthly management reporting packs.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles and industry regulations.
- Review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations prepared by the finance team (creditors’ recons, inventory variance analyses, bank recons etc.).
Candidates should:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree and CA/CIMA/ACC or equivalent qualification
- Excellent knowledge of IFRS reporting
- Strong knowledge of mining-specific accounting principles and regulations
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an Accountant, preferably in the mining industry
- Skilled with Pastel, Sage and Excel.
