An independent and objective function which identifies, measures, monitors and controls all risks in the institution.

Your risk assessment skills must have covered areas in Credit, Market, Liquidity, Operational, Legal, Strategic, Capital, Liquidity Risk management at senior level. 

Your overall ability shall provide assurance to the Board that the Banks’s Strategic, Operational , Reporting and Compliance objective are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements enterprise-wide risk management methodologies and models and institutes policies and guidelines for strategic, market, liquidity, credit, operational, reputational, regulatory, and business risks throughout the Bank.
  • Identifies, quantifies, monitors, and controls the Banks’s exposure to strategic, market, liquidity, credit, operational, reputation, compliance, regulatory and business risks.
  • Establishes or enhances risk mitigation and internal control policies and procedures in the Bank and Oversees the effective communication and implementation of risk management strategies throughout the Bank.
  • Approves, as part of Credit Committee, credit facilities to customers within approved board and regulatory limits
  • Consults with Executive management regarding risks, exposures and internal controls profile within the Bank.
  • Communicates the risk position of the Bank to Executive management and the Board through regular reports to line and staff managers, management, and Board Committees.
  • Participates in the Board Risk Committee, Assets & Liabilities Management Committee, the Executive Committee, the Management Credit Committee, the Board Credit Committee, the Board Loans Review Committee, the Projects Committee and other committees set up within the Bank, including ad-hoc ones
  • Reinforces External and Internal audit recommendations to improve business processes and control systems
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of risk management techniques and current industry developments to ensure that accurate advice is given and correct work methods are adopted by attending seminars and conferences, perusal of monetary policy statements etc.
  • Advises Executive management and the Board of Directors on the applicable laws, statutes, rules and guidelines; keeping abreast of industry and technological developments in the applicable laws, statutes, regulations and guidelines and advising management accordingly.
  • Monitors the Bank’s compliance with the regulations, compliance policies, procedures and programs by performing regular and comprehensive compliance risk assessment and testing and reporting on regular basis to senior management, and to the Board of Directors on compliance matters, including the status of implementation of the compliance program or plan.
  • Oversees the effective implementation of, and adherence to, Anti-Money Laundering regulations within the Bank by developing, implementing, and maintaining relevant policies and procedures.
  • Develops strategies on the best way to rehabilitate or recover bad debts and Oversees the management, rehabilitation and recovery, of bad debts of the credit granting business by developing the relevant policies and procedures.
  • Determines the level of impairments and / or provisions to be made against the credit portfolio of the credit granting business of the Bank and Recommends the write off of bad debts where recovery is extremely remote or very expensive relative to exposure at default.
  • In collaboration with the Bank’s legal representative(s), ensures that the Bank’s employees, customers, facilities, assets and records are protected.
  • Oversees the development, implementation and administering of the Bank’s Security Policy and program including fraud prevention, property recovery, physical, personnel, procedural, etc.
  • Oversees the development, implementation and administering of the Bank’s Insurance Programmes
  • Ensures that satisfactory liaison is established with law enforcement officers at all levels in the geographical areas where the Bank has operations.
  • Manages coordinated loss recovery efforts on all cases of fraud, theft or any other means by which corporate assets may have been lost or abused.
  • Any other duties as directed by superiors

Educational Qualifications:

  • Degree in Risk Management, Banking & Finance, or equivalent
  • Masters’ degree is an added advantage with 5 – 8 years’ experience
