General Manager – Operations – Manufacturing Products for Local & Export markets

Our client is an exporter of manufacturing products – Reporting to the Managing Director, the General Manager- Operations shall be responsible for ensuring that the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of the strategic and operational plans and programs for the production and production support functions within the company. The General Manager – Operations shall lead the company from an operations perspective.

Essential job responsibilities include:

  • Involvement and execution of high-level decisions about policy and strategy.
  • Planning, organizing, and controlling the activities and actions of the company’s production and production support functions.
  • Develop sound productivity and efficiency strategies

These responsibilities involve achieving the following tasks:

  • Develop and manage overall Production function strategies/action plans, taking into consideration company guidelines, current and future business challenges and the restrictions and sensitivities of the local environment and culture.
  • Set and manage meaningful targets for productivity, machine efficiency, manufacturing wastages by implementing best operational practices and developing a culture for continuous improvement programs
  • Set and manage product quality benchmarks as set up in the company plan objectives and, in the process, providing consumers with superior quality products.
  • Set and manage production safety, health and environmental policies/practices which meets company guidelines and local legislation.
  • Ensure quality of local production management and non-management personnel is enhanced and developed through structured training programs
  • Ensure plant, equipment and processes meet business needs by implementing best operational and maintenance practices.
  • Ensure strategic supply materials and spares for manufacture through evaluation/selection of suppliers and structured purchasing policies to achieve quality and cost competitiveness.
  • Develop and implement a basic Factory Information System which meet best operational practices and the local environment and in the process set up the necessary production management and operational databases and systems.
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team

General Manager – Operations Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Be under 45 years of age
  • Proven progressive experience in a senior management position in a complex manufacturing environment with a large workforce.
  • Strong proven project and people management skills.
  • Strong reporting skills.
  • Ability to understand new issues quickly and make wise decisions.
  • Ability to inspire confidence and create trust.
  • Ability to work under pressure, plan personal workload effectively and delegate.
