The role of General Manager reports to the Group Chief Operating Officer and is a member of the EXCO Team.
This challenging and demanding role requires the successful person:
- To oversee the planning, development and execution of the manufacturing factory output, marketing, sales, finance, HR and operations of the company.
- Develop strategies and initiatives to generate revenue by streamlining manufacturing operations, ensuring timeous procurement of raw materials, distribution of finished products and overhead cost containment.
- In conjunction with the Group Marketing function, and by using market research, competitor pricing analysis, assist with marketing products across the nation and for the region.
- Pursue and develop new business opportunities and concluding profitable contracts for products other than the manufactured products for markets in agriculture, retail hardware, veterinary supplies and other FMCG markets.

- Duties include conducting market research to identify new business opportunities and client leads.
- Vet suppliers of raw materials for the production processes to ensure that the correct quality and price of raw material is acquired at the appropriate time.
- Identifies, formulates, and agrees the short, medium, and long-term marketing strategic direction, product formulation goals, and objectives across all markets in liaison with the Group Chief Operations Officer and Group Business Unit Heads.
- Contributes to the Development of the annual strategy and budgets.
- Ensures brand profitability through knowledge and management of product, price, promotion, place, and costs across the different Brand products & diverse local and export markets.
- Liaises with Heads of Business Units to guide the short, mid, and long-term product and portfolio strategic direction by brand and by market.
- Gathers & analyses market data to understand industry & competitor trends and develops dashboards to evaluate brand performance vs competition.
- Conducts product feasibility studies and outcomes for new product portfolios.
- Manages any product launch process through effective resource allocation, maximizing product life cycles, and ensuring portfolio optimization in line with the defined business strategy and plans.
- Ensures effective communication and collaboration across, marketing, operations, finance & management. Full P&L responsibility.
Person Specifications:
- Be a holder of an appropriate Business, Accounting, and/or Marketing Degree.
- Minimum of 5 – 8 years proven working experience in a general management role of a diverse manufacturing concern.
- Possess a knowledge of Digital Marketing and Customer Data Analytics.
- Advanced Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
- Strong personality with excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills across different management levels
A good understanding of financial and operational matters.
