Engineering Manager – Mining Operation

The role reports and works closely with the General Manager on site at their mine operations. The role also works closely with the Mine Manager to ensure optimisation of the mine is achieved with solid engineering service backup and support. You will lead a strong engineering team both open pit and underground. 

Summary Of Duties 

  • Serve as the engineering leader and technical expert on site to support GM and Mine Manager
  • Answer questions and resolve issues brought forth by the engineering team members
  • Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by
  • Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects
  • Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff
  • Monitor and determine various staffing and training needs
  • Communicate and collaborate with other managers, suppliers and contractors
  • Implement planned maintenance system
  • Participate in spare parts ordering and must have relationship with key parts suppliers
  • Monitor and maintain system of breakdown attendance
  • Compile monthly reports
  • Ensure above 95% plant availability
  • Ensure timely availability of spares and consumables
  • Maintain agreed stock levels
  • Maintain accurate engineering records
  • Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes 

The person must have 

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Post qualification is other disciplines is desired.
  • At least 10 years’ experience, ideally in a senior management role and good exposure to mineral processing plants
  • Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various complex engineering problems
  • Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team
  • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes and the entire engineering team on track
  • Self-motivated attitude with ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment
  • Mature and good interpersonal communication skills
  • Well networked with sound knowledge of suppliers and service providers
