Our client is one of the largest installers of electronic security systems in Zimbabwe. They are looking for a person to take up the challenging and interesting position above.

Role:

Heads the Electronics Division whose key business offering is deploying comprehensive and integrated technological solutions to help clients mitigate risk and protect their assets. Manages the offering of seamless and intelligent technology-based solutions including electronic access control systems, video surveillance, CCTV, fire alarms, alarm monitoring, emergency communications, solar systems installations, and other smart tech innovative solutions. Manages the ICT infrastructure of the business.

The Electronics & ICT Manager develops business strategy and implements operational strategies to achieve strategic goals. 

Functions and Responsibilities

  1. ICT Management

Strategy & Policy Development & Execution of Strategic Goals

  • Develops (in consultation with Senior Management & the strategy development team) the ICT strategy in order to improve operational efficiency through adoption of relevant technologies appropriate for the business.
  • Recommends, develops, implements and maintains appropriate ICT Policies to serve business needs.
  • Develops & implements ICT operational strategies to achieve set goals.
  • Establishing an ICT infrastructure that best suits business and user needs, ensuring that all necessary cyber security systems are put in place and maintained.
  • Establishing and maintaining a data storage and comprehensive disaster & data recovery plan to assure business continuity.
  • Supervises the maintenance of ICT equipment and infrastructure.
  • Keeps an inventory of all IT hardware and software and trace their movement.
  • Maintains the SHEQ Management System for the IT Department ensuring adherence to policies and operating procedures.
  • Supervises the ICT team to ensure;
  • Speedy resolution of software, hardware, and network problems.
  • That users receive relevant training. 
  1. Electronic Security Management

Strategy Development & Attainment of Strategic Goals

o   Develop (in consultation with Senior Management & the strategy development team) strategic goals for the Electronics Division.

o   Develop and implement operational strategies to achieve strategic goals.

Site Surveys, Security Needs Analysis & Quotations

o   Conducts site surveys, and analyses, and determines security needs.

o   Prepares installation budgets and quotations for security installation projects.

o   When performing this task, the incumbent is expected to give expert security advice to clients so that an appropriate security solution is adopted to meet clients’ security needs.

Project Management & Documentation

o   Coordinates multiple concurrent security system installation projects.

o   Schedules installations, maintenance work and repair work in consultation with clients’ contact persons and the senior technician.

o   Develops goals and targets for the technical team.

o   Plans or approves daily job and deployment plans prepared by the Senior Technician.

o   Directs and controls daily operations.

Supervision & Performance Management

o   Supervises the activities and performance of staff and responds to escalated issues in the field for all projects, system installations and commissioning of installed work.

o   Carries out or supervises site visits by the senior technician to verify that installations are done properly to required standards.

o   Carries out monthly performance assessments of technicians and takes initiatives to maintain high productivity.

Recruitment, Training, Development & Support

o   Staffing all technical and operational positions with competent and effective personnel.

o   Provides technical support, guidance, expertise and leadership to technicians.

o   Identifies performance needs and develops and arranges training and development programmes for technicians and provide on the job coaching and training in order to improve technical skills and keep the technical team in tandem with technical developments.

Business Development

o   The Incumbent’s key responsibility in business development is to develop a reputation for efficiency in the development of effective security solutions, carrying out high quality installations, maintenance and timeous response to alarms and other emergencies.

o   Works with the business development team to identify and develop strategies to exploit identified opportunities.

o   Attends tender site tours.

o   Assist in the preparation of tender documents and make presentations where required.

Supplies Management

o   Provide (in consultation with Senior Management and or a consultant) expertise in all areas of technical specifications of equipment for purchase and/or for installation to address client’s requirements.

o   Develops and maintains a supplier database and establishes procurement arrangements that suit the needs of the business and assures competitiveness in both pricing and quality.

o   Establishes and maintains adequate stock order levels.

Discipline

o   Maintains high levels of discipline and accountability in technicians. In particular and due to the peculiarity of the profession, the incumbent is required to maintain effective control over the work ethics of technicians and stamp out malingering, side marketing & hustling, pilferage, fraudulent activities and general insubordination.

Customer Service

o   Follows up on customer queries, complaints and institute measures for speedy resolution of queries and complaints.

o   Frequently engages and maintains customer relations to achieve high customer satisfaction.

Project Updates & Administration

o   Provides timely and accurate project status updates to internal stakeholders. 

Subcontractor Management

o   Plans subcontracting of technical work in consultation with Senior Management and or Consultants to achieve the best advantage for the business.

o   Manages, controls and directs subcontractors’ installations to ensure projects plans, specifications and targets are being adhered to.

o   Commissions subcontracted work and supervise the completion of any outstanding work or work that needs redoing.

Commissioning

o   Commissions all projects completed and ensures each installation meets specified standards and that clients have sufficient knowledge to operate the installed systems.

System Maintenance & Repairs

o   Supervising the maintenance and repair of systems installed at Clients’ premises as follows;

–      Testing, and troubleshooting of electronic security system components and supporting hardware as follows;

o   Intrusion detection platform software

o   Security appliances/processors and field sensors (e.g. motion/vibration, contact, buried line, fibre optic, radar, microwave, thermal, etc.)

o   Access control: workstations with credentialing software, door controllers, card readers

o   CCTV: cameras, video management servers, network video recorder Battery backup controllers

o   Gate motors

o   Solar systems 

Rapid Response & Incident Attendance

o   Supervises the operations of the Rapid Response Control Room and deployment of Rapid Response teams.

o   Maintains control room monitoring systems and vehicle equipment.

o   Supervises incident attendance and incident reporting to clients and senior management.

SHEQ Management System

o   The incumbent is required to show commitment to quality improvement and the maintenance of the SHEQ Management System in the organization.

o   Communicates, facilitates and raises the general SHEQ awareness amongst employees.

o   Constantly study and review the organization’s SHEQ Management System, make, implement and coordinate corrective measures to ensure that the process remain relevant to the needs of both external and internal customers.

o   Coordinates Divisional Internal SHEQ Audits ensuring that non – conformities raised are correctly closed and that the Management Representative is advised.

Decision Making

The incumbent makes relatively complex strategic decisions relating to growth of the division, staff performance and results produced, variations of operational plans, recruitment, adequacy and efficiency of systems, procedures and policies. 

The incumbent also makes definite recommendations and consults the Corporate Director or Managing Director, Administration Director, Head Human Resources and Quality Assurance on major issues concerning the following.

  • Major contract negotiations and other contracts agreement which deviate from company’s standard contract.
  • Expenditure
  • Cessation of major contracts
  • Claims from clients
  • Recruitment, placement, promotions and removal of staff.
  • Structural changes and staff movements concerning staff.
  • Staff benefits
  • Budgets 

Pressure of Work

Pressure of work is considerable due to the need to make numerous frequent decisions pertaining to costs, products to be offered, quality, product procurement, installation projects, staff allocations, supervision and customer relations. Pressure increases when there is new business or when there are too many incidents to attend to. 

Controls and checks

The incumbent has independence on issues concerning the near future and day-to-day management of the electronics division and ICT department. 

Ultimately the incumbent’s ability is measured through operational results such as the ability to continuously improve the productivity of employees, profitability of the division, customer satisfaction, and brand reputation. 

Consequences of Error of Judgement

Errors of judgment can have a significant impact on the performance of the division and may result in financial loss, loss of reputation, loss of potential and current business, brand credibility, and loss of jobs. Errors in ICT have the potential to incapacitate business processes with high nuisance value to clients. Errors may also lead to the inability to adequately protect or complete or partial loss of company data. 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • A good Degree in ICT with working knowledge of electronic security systems installations as an advantage.
  • Management or supervisory qualification an advantage.
  • Three years’ managerial experience in ICT OR electronic security systems installation.
