This senior and challenging role reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is based at Head Office. 

The role has senior responsibilities as part of the senior team; 

  • The Head of Geology & Mining will be responsible for continually identifying and delivering value by securing and managing the raw material resources of the group.
  • The position provides deep technical support to all geological and mining operations within the group.
  • Develop, maintain and reconcile mine plans covering the entire mining value chain and infrastructure, as defined in relevant international guidelines.
  • Organize the mining and geology teams to deliver the operational, exploration & evaluation reporting process according to relevant international guidelines.
  • Driving digitization and record keeping and data on land, geology and reserves/resources in a safe and ordered manner.
  • Ensures the development and adherence to quality specs and a sufficient quality control process in the mining and geology disciplines of group operations.
  • Ensures the world class delivery of technical services in the field of geology and mining for all group operations and initiatives.
  • Optimizing;
    • company assets, particularly resource and reserve utilization; and
    • mining costs; and
    • cross functional mutual support; and
    • cooperation with group operations in the disciplines of Mining and Geology.
  • Developing and implementing strategies and budgets for operations, land acquisitions and other projects to develop the resource/reserve position of the group.
  • Managing and supporting their team, giving enough autonomy and showing clearly their input in the tasks and the preparation of work.
  • Capable of a high-level view and clear and concise reporting to all levels of management.
  • To lead the identification, exploration and modeling of resources and reserves for the group. 

Responsibilities, Skills and Experience 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or Geology with proven experience in operations and managing technical teams.
  • Minimum 10 years proven industry experience of open-pit and / or underground mining operations, across precious metals.
  • Minimum professional accreditation with a suitable organization or body to qualify in time as a competent person in any of the SAMREC, JORC and NI 43-101 guidelines.
  • Proven technical experience designing of mining plans from short range to life of mine.
  • Capable to work with Geology/Mining software, preferred experienced with Surpac, MineSched and/or Leapfrog.
  • Understand the Geology and Mining of greenstone belts and exploration and mining methods.
  • Strong digital preference in ways of working.
  • Understands the mineral industry, mass flows, chemistry and value chain of gold processing.
  • Capacity to organize and execute multiple projects linked to current operations and growth in an efficient manner.
  • Capacity to adapt to the constant changes and demands of the Zimbabwean business environment.
