The role
Manages the engineering department for optimum plant availability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures that health, safety and housekeeping policies are maintained
- Ensures compliance with Factories Act and all other relevant statutes
- Ensures optimum plant availability through a structured maintenance programme
- Reviews the performance of equipment and implements agreed improvement through stay in business capital expenditure and other means
- Prepares and controls departmental budget
- Ensures effective maintenance of steam generation units through maintenance programme, suitable inputs and skilled employees
- Recommends recommendation on replacement of equipment
- Ensures efficient utilisation of energy resources
- Establishes the stock held in the engineering so that it is consistent with engineering demand
- Formulates, administers and coordinates engineering related projects to ensure timeous completion, safely, quality and within budget
- Engages, trains and mentors and develops employees to run the department
- Maintains discipline in the engineering department
- Implements performance management in the department
- Ensures that all Engineering processes and staff adhere to the company’s food safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering – B-Tech/ B. Eng.
- Approximately 8-10 years post-graduate experience in the role of Engineering Manager or a similar level of combined technical and managerial experience
- Experience in food manufacturing and edible fats is a distinct advantage
- Able to conduct maintenance work and plan annual maintenance programs.
- Able to improve uptime and reduce costs.
- Able to lead and supervise engineering maintenance artisanal staff.
- SAP knowledge
