Head of Risk – Banking Sector

“Ensuring the integrity of risk, audit and compliance management” 

This important and senior role works closely with the Group Managing Director and formulates part of the senior management team at Head Office. 

The Head of Risk will be responsibilities of coordinating the Risk functions, ensuring that risk & control objectives are embedded in an effective way. 

This will be achieved by providing constant support and advice to the business thereby establishing/maintaining an effective and “fit for purpose” Risk & Control Framework which ensures that: 

  • All material concentrations of risk in the businesses have effective controls in place which are executed in a diligent & satisfactory way.
  • Operational losses are minimised, and audit performance is enhanced.
  • To advise and support the business in the effective identification, assessment, and management of its key risks in line with its defined appetite.
  • To facilitate, support and monitor all control issues arising from governance forums and reviews External Audit, Regulatory Audits, and other matters.
  • Management reporting and escalation of all key concerns in a timely and effective way ensuring that adequate corrective action is taken. 

The role pays a pivotal and important role across operational and risk management, governance, and controls assurance and remediation assurance. 

This senior and important role requires: 

  • Strong planning, organisation, implementation & co-ordination skills
  • Strong analytical skills and a high level of business acumen, sound judgement & proven problem-solving skills
  • High intelligence, absolute discretion & integrity
  • Credit assessment and sanctioning 

Chartered Accountant/MBA or similar risk management qualification.

Strategic approach with focus on the ‘big picture’ but a pragmatic approach to handling issues.

In-depth business awareness and thorough understanding of financial services sector and risk policies and procedures.

Experience of working with senior management and of exerting influence with formal authority.

Good understanding of broader operating environment including codes of practice.

Experience of statutory and executive management reporting.

Experience of managing relationships at executive level.
