Mechanical Manager – (Maintenance Department) – Mining Sector

The roll operates from the mining maintenance department and contributes towards implementation of the Mine Maintenance strategy that ensures alignment with the Mines long-term business strategy. The position is responsible for designing and developing Mechanical Maintenance systems, as enforcing productive Maintenance practices that ensure maximize operational success.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Supervising and overseeing the Mechanical Maintenance operations and ensuring all safety protocols, safeguards and controls are followed and applied in the undertaking of all maintenance jobs in the Plant and Mining areas.  
  • Ensuring availability of critical Mechanical spares in Stores and consistent supply of quality spares to Mechanical Maintenance team. 
  • Cost control for Mechanical Maintenance spares and maintenance work. 
  • Enforcing achievement of set daily, weekly and monthly Plant and equipment availability targets. 
  • Generating value added reports of Plant maintenance and availability, breakdown analysis, manpower performance analysis and training. 
  • Promoting and developing the skills of subordinates through the transfer of technology and knowledge as well as skill development through on-the-job training programs. 
  • Encouraging and facilitating effective and supportive communication links between Maintenance team members and client departments. 
  • Demonstrating personal commitment and active participation in the Company’s Safety, Health, Environmental and Social responsibility strategies and practices. 
  • Ensuring ZERO HARM is achieved through enforcing the Maintenance HIRA management plans. 
  • Keeping and enforcing Statutory and internal reporting systems as required 

 

Key Competences

  • Strong and solid Mechanical Engineering maintenance and Leadership skills 
  • Strong skills in MS Office, Database ( e.g. MS-SQL and Access), and Maintenance Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications. 
  • Strong on root cause analysis to the Mechanical Maintenance challenges (Strong analytical and problem-solving skills) 
  • Detail-oriented and able to follow and maintain accurate Maintenance systems documentation 
  • A proven results-oriented track record in Mining and Processing Maintenance operations. 
  • Should be candidate of demonstratable strong conceptual skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of SHE systems and other Maintenance related legislation 
  • Strong results -oriented People Management skills, focusing on team building as well as developing competent and disciplined workforce.

Person Specifications

 

Suitable candidates should have the following qualifications and experience-

  • Bsc Honours in Mechanical or Mechatronics degree.
  • Minimum five (5) years post Graduate Traineeship maintenance work experience in Mining and Processing Operations.
  • Professional membership an added advantage
