Senior Accountant – Educational Trust

Our client – a prestigious Group of Schools, is seeking to appoint Senior Accountant.

This is a challenging role and career opportunity to join a great team – the incumbent reports to the Group Finance & Administration Manager. 

Purpose

To manage and control the reporting, financial accounting, finance control, inventory, control, cashbooks, creditors and revenue 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Financial Accounting – Prepare monthly financial reports

Variance Analysis – Review and prepare monthly cost variance reports by expense line

Budget and budgetary control – Assist in coordination, budget formulation, implementation and control.

Security and Risk Management – Design and implement sound accounting and internal controls at all levels to ensure adequate protection of company assets.

Inventory Controls – Control and drive monthly stock takes from a financial perspective.

Working Capital Management –Design and implement the most appropriate financing model

Implement an effective system on cash flow forecasting

Information Systems – Design, implement and review management information systems

Learning and Growth – Identify training gaps, needs and arrange appropriate training for Finance staff. 

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Reporting

Ensure that management and financial reports are accurate, timeous and valid

Ensure that they are continuously updated/improved to enable management to measure and manage the Trust accurately on an ongoing basis

Ensure that all month end, quarterly end and year end requirements are met within the required time frames

 

Variance Analysis

Ensure that all variances are explainable

 

Cost Control

Ensure that all expenditure within budget is approved within the correct authority levels, and that any unapproved expenditure is reported.

Ensure that un-budgeted expenditure is authorised

Ensure that all cost allocations are to the correct account for the correct amount in the correct period and within budget

 

Budget and Profit Forecasts

Ensure that the entire budgeting process is adequately managed and controlled and that all deadlines are met for reporting purposes

Implement and maintain a monthly forecasting module

Prepare and report against forecast and budget on a monthly basis for each school

Draw attention to those specific activities which do not conform to plan

Identify prompt measurements of actions and identify trouble spots

 

Stock Control

Ensure that monthly stock accounts are reconciled and all long outstanding items are cleared, and that book to physical adjustments are minimised

Ensure physical stock counts are carried out every month

 

Cashbooks

Ensure that each school maintains a cash book

Ensure that reconciliations are carried out monthly

 

Creditors

Ensure that individual creditors reconciliations are carried out every month

 

Security and Risk Management

Design and maintain a fixed asset register

Ensure that all Trust assets are properly accounted for

Ensure that all fixed assets are physically verified every six months

Ensure that the security of cash, cheques and stationery is in line with economic environment

Ensure compliance with statutory requirements to avoid penalties and legal costs

 

Information Systems

Ensure that Management Information Systems are adequately developed in order to be able to provide the necessary management information
