We seek an astute leader interested in joining the NGO Sector for the first time in career development with the appropriate management skill.

This challenging and rewarding role seeks a suitably qualified and motivated individual with a strong business administration background and experience in managing and coordinating multiple teams and tasks, and the ability to quickly get up to speed with a diverse array of operations across the NGO. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be tasked with overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the organisation. You must have developed skills to oversee all admin, HR, procurement, logistics, accounting, monitoring, auditing and reporting on our various donor projects according to respective donor standards as well as the internal systems and policies of the organisation to succeed. You will be responsible for directing multiple departments and tasks and must therefore be well organised, have a meticulous eye to detail, and a structured, disciplined approach to project management and timeous completion of tasks and reports. Exceptional developed project management skills are an essential requirement.

To be successful the candidate must possess strong leadership, communication, mentorship, and management skills and be 100% proficient in use of Microsoft® Office Word, Power-Point and Excel. The COO should have a strong focus on ensuring that both HQ and field teams are at all times properly supported, briefed, debriefed and provisioned to best facilitate their work – requiring capacity for both long term planning and short-term improvisation, flexibility, judgement and accountability. The capability of wearing many hats is imperative to achieve multiply tasks and to meet the demands of the senior role.

The candidate should be reliable with the ability to work independently and interdependently to produce effective and efficient results towards clearly stated strategic goals.

Overall, you must have a strong interest in wildlife conservation and community upliftment, being prepared to live and work remotely in the bush alongside a full complement of dangerous wildlife and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or similar qualification or experience is essential.

The position requires at least 10 years’ experience in business administration and project management, with at least 7 years of supervisory experience as well as a strong understanding of financial systems and budgeting. The COO should on occasion be prepared to work evenings and weekends to meet multiple deadlines inherent to donor grant management. Quarterly multiple night travel is required to visit field teams and attend meetings from time to time.

The organisation prides itself on efficiency and practical, cost-effective execution of projects – which they consider to be a key point of difference within the NGO sector. As such, although experience in managing large donor grants may count in an applicant’s favour, they consider that a candidate’s attitude, aptitude, common sense, interests and broader management skill sets are far more important criteria for this role.

The job is offered on a 4-year contract basis and is well rewarded by the donor.
